At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we believe every colleague is responsible for safeguarding data and maintaining the trust our customers place in us.

Data privacy

We are committed to collecting, using and protecting personal data responsibly. Our global privacy program is built on widely recognized principles and is designed to respect the rights and freedoms of the people whose information we process. This can include colleagues, customers, patients, suppliers, business partners and visitors to our websites.

Our Global Privacy Notice outlines our practices for managing personal information that can directly or indirectly identify an individual. We review it regularly to reflect applicable laws and regulatory guidance in the countries and regions where we operate. Colleagues are expected to complete ongoing privacy training and periodic recertification on our policies and relevant data protection requirements.

Our Global Privacy and Technology Office partners with businesses across the company to help put requirements into practice. We apply the Privacy by Design framework, embedding privacy into how systems and processes are developed and operationalized. We also use a privacy management platform to support consistent program execution and oversight, including privacy assessments, contract reviews, individual rights request workflows and third-party due diligence.

We expect vendors and partners that handle personal data on our behalf to meet our privacy requirements through contractual commitments and ongoing oversight. Together, these measures help us maintain trust, manage risk and advance our Mission.

Cybersecurity

Our commitment to cybersecurity emphasizes the use of a risk-based, defense-in-depth approach to assess, educate, block, identify, respond to and recover from cybersecurity threats. Recognizing that no single technology, process or control can effectively prevent or mitigate all risks, we incorporate cybersecurity into our overall risk management process. We employ a suite of technologies, processes and controls, all working independently and as part of a cohesive strategy, to manage or reduce risk.

Our cybersecurity program has earned an ISO 27001 certification, a globally recognized and annually renewed standard for information security management systems. Our program assists in the management of risks associated with the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and systems both within the company environment and for our products and services to effectively support our business objectives and customer expectations. We seek to routinely refine our cybersecurity approach to adapt to changes in the threat landscape and manage emerging security risks.

To reinforce vigilance and raise awareness of cybersecurity threats, we regularly educate and share best practices with our colleagues. Our training program includes frequent exercises, periodic cyber event simulations and annual attestation to our Technology Acceptable Use Policy.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an important part of Thermo Fisher’s Mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We embed AI and machine learning (ML) across our products, software, services and operations to help customers generate deeper scientific insights, improve productivity and accelerate innovation. We do so with a focus on responsible use, supported by strong standards for data privacy, data ethics, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

Responsible AI

Our Responsible AI framework, anchored by a global Responsible AI policy, guides how we use data and how we develop, deploy and monitor AI systems across the company. These practices help protect sensitive data and intellectual property, promote appropriate human oversight and manage emerging risks. Together, they support our commitment to applying AI technologies securely, ethically and in ways that build long-term trust with customers, colleagues and society.

AI governance

Our approach to the responsible use of AI includes a risk-based governance structure to take appropriate steps to support the fair, ethical and safe design, implementation and use of AI within Thermo Fisher. Our Generative AI Center of Excellence, which comprises cross-functional leaders, advises on strategy, regulation, policies and frameworks with oversight by an AI Leadership Committee. In addition, the Board receives regular updates on AI strategy, governance and use, including mechanisms to mitigate potential risks associated with deployment.

AI and sustainability

Thermo Fisher considers the environmental implications of AI within our broader net-zero strategy, which is focused on transitioning away from fossil fuels and high-impact refrigerants while accelerating the adoption of renewable electricity. We also address AI’s upstream impacts by engaging our technology suppliers to collaborate on more sustainable solutions and establish their own climate targets. In 2025, our global IT expenditures—inclusive of AI—accounted for approximately 1% of our emissions from purchased goods and services. While this reflects a limited footprint today, we are taking steps to support sustainability across our technology value chain as AI adoption grows. By December 2025, more than 60% of our technology partners, by spend, had set or committed to science-based emission reduction targets.
